FAQs
How do I get started?
The first step is to reach out to me by phone or email. I aim to respond to all inquiries within 24 business hours.
What is therapy and how can it help me?
Therapy is a process where you can explore and express your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a supportive and understanding space, free of judgment. It can help you gain insight, cope with challenges, embrace healing, and make meaningful changes in your life.
How do I know if therapy is working?
In general, therapy is working when you feel understood, can cope with life’s challenges better, and notice small, meaningful changes in your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors. Together, we can create individual goals for your treatment that are unique to you. This gives us another tool to celebrate your progress.
Do you accept insurance? How does that work?
Yes, I accept insurance. Please see the Insurance & Payment page for a current list of insurance providers I am in-network with.
How do I pay for sessions?
I provide options for insurance and self-pay.
I can accept payments via cash, all major credit/debit cards, and FSA/HSA cards.
Most card payments are processed through SimplePractice, an online, HIPAA-compliant software.
How do I prepare for the first session?
After our initial consultation call, I will send out intake documentation to be completed electronically before the first session.
What is your current availability?
I am available to meet with clients on weekdays and evenings. It is best to contact me to discuss your specific scheduling needs and determine if I am able to accommodate them.
How can I find out if you are an in-network provider with my insurance plan?
You can call the number on the back of your insurance card and provide them with my full name and my National Provider Identifier (NPI): 1336779594. Alternatively, most insurance providers have a member portal where you can find an online provider directory, and you can search for me through there as well. If you are uncertain, please don’t hesitate to contact me and we can find the answers together.
How long are therapy sessions?
Standard therapy sessions range from 53-60 minutes.
Do you offer telehealth and in-person services?
At Holding Space Counseling, I can provide both in-person and telehealth therapy services.
Is everything I say confidential?
I keep what you share with me confidential, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, if abuse is suspected, or if the law requires disclosure. You can request a full copy of Holding Space Counseling’s Informed consent form at any time before, during, or after treatment. This form provides further details of the limits of confidentiality. You will receive a copy of this document electronically to review and sign before your initial intake session.
What is your cancellation policy?
I request that all cancellations and rescheduled sessions are received at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment time. Cancellations and rescheduled sessions received less than 24 hours in advance are subject to a $50 fee. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you.
Do you prescribe medications?
No, I am unable to prescribe medications. However, I can help you find a provider who can if needed.
How often will we meet?
When we first connect, we will decide how often we will meet depending on your individual needs and goals. Most clients usually begin with weekly or biweekly sessions. Throughout the course of treatment, we can tailor our meeting frequency to whatever we agree is most appropriate for your treatment at any given time.
What if I don’t think we’re a good fit after a few sessions?
I believe the trust and relationship built between therapist and client is critical to your healing and growth. If you don’t think we’re a good fit, it’s okay to let me know, and I can provide you with a list of alternative counseling resources.
What happens to my records?
At Holding Space Counseling, your records are stored electronically through SimplePractice, an online, HIPAA-compliant software.
What if I have a question that isn’t listed on this page?
